I wasconsidering buying a new car, an automatic. But to ease the transition from a manual to an automatic car, I had booked several automatic driving lessons. I was shocked by thesmall amount of driving instructorswho offered automatic driving lessons, it was mainly manual driving lessons offeredin my area, however, I finally managed to find one driving instructor who didn'tcharge the earthfor one lesson and seemed very cheap compared to many of the others.

After my set of ten lessons, I felt confident enough to drive my new automatic car by myself. Ihadn't drove very far until a car drove straight into me and my brand new car. I was not impressed.

The woman who got out the car behind, seemed very defensive even though it was totally her fault as she drove into me. If she hadn't been tailgating then it wouldn't have happened. I suggested swapping insurance details but she seemed to ignore me instead examining the damage done to her car. Her car just had a scratch on it whereas my car would be unroadworthy. The damage to her car would be cheap to repair unlike the damage to mine. The lights were smashed as well as the car boot. Just as she began to shout at me, the police arrived. As it was a narrow road where it had happened, it was difficult for cars to pass, and a worried driver had phoned the police just in case another accident occurred.

Whilst one policeman organised the traffic, the other helped to swop details. The woman was still defensive but the policeman simply said "This is a dangerous spot to be in. Stop being defensive. You are giving me reason to think you have reason to be. Simply give your insurance details to this woman." The other woman was startled but finally started to give the insurance details to me after all this time. It started to rain and I realised that I hadn't phoned the roadside recovery. Luckily for me, the policeman said I could sit in the police car until they came. My insurance bill for next year would not be cheap and I was not looking forward to it.
