My family had been looking at buying something expensive for grandma. We calculated what we could afford and realized we would have to be more creative then we had intended to provide her a gift to remember. My dad suggested we skip to hire a boat for the day. He meant it and said forget all discussions, let us rent out a boat.
Grandma loved the sea and a day out would do her the world of good.We were all under instruction to be discreet but it was difficult sometimes to let the moment pass without saying something. Grandma never suspected a thingOn our journey was passed many young drivers, I guess going on some trip or other.
There was a block on the road due to an earlier accident but thankfully we were able to pass through without much incident. My mother commented about young drivers today being so reckless but under my fathers instruction she smiled and said we were all young once.Something fell to the floor of the car.
It was my bus pass. I'd forgot to put it away. I went through my pockets to be met by nothing else. I handed it to mother and the moment was gone.My father pointed out he was under instruction by mother to drive us to a secret location.
Throughout the trip, they took great enjoyment teasing grandma who seemed just happy to be outside living again after a rather eventful yearOn our journey we met with one or two more young drivers. They seemed to be getting younger by the minute.
We finally passed by a sign saying, 'Boats For Hire'I looked across at grandma who had finally cottoned on. She began talking about loving the sea and how she hadn't been here for such a long time. It was good to see her smiling againAs we stopped, we all looked at her for a moment.
She usually had something clever to say that amused everyone. However this time she had a tear in her eye and a big smile on her face. I guess this was truly what she had wanted.
